Another hour and a half of hiking brought us to Mosquito Beach. Coming down off the bluff, we discovered this sandstone ledge nestled in a cove about a quarter of a mile wide. Completely deserted and unlike any other beach we've seen, it is composed of layers and layers of compressed sandstone extending into the water for several hundred yards before dropping off. We found several secluded campsites, back of the beach, with Mosquito River running behind the sites. Again, no one else was camped here, and we had our pick of the sites. Unpacking and setting up camp was easier now that the rain had ceased, and after pitching the tent and securing our food on the bear pole, we explored the stratified formations of the beach.
