That night we stayed in comfort at the Yosemite Lodge in the Valley. We ate steak and drank beer and indulged in bouts of self-congratulatory jests, for we were pleased to have made it to the top of Half Dome.

I awoke early the next morning to shoot photographs of El Capitan and saw two parties of climbers encamped on the great wall. Joining the others for breakfast, we then headed up the highway toward Olmstead Point and Tioga Pass. George, Lori and Steve had a plane to catch in Reno that evening.

We paused at Olmstead Point briefly to wander among the glacial erratics, and then proceeded up the highway to Tuolumne Meadows.
